Quick Answers
The questions visitors ask most often.
What is Watch Hill famous for?
Three things: the 1876 Flying Horse Carousel (the oldest in America), the historic Watch Hill Lighthouse, and being home to Taylor Swift's oceanfront estate. It's also known as one of the quietest luxury coastal communities on the East Coast.
Is the Flying Horse Carousel still operating?
Yes — it's been operating continuously since 1883 and is the oldest carousel in America. It runs daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There are strict size limits because the horses literally fly outward on chains: kids must be under 12, under 5 feet, and under 100 pounds.
Can you climb Watch Hill Lighthouse?
The grounds are open year-round, but the small museum and tower viewing area have limited summer hours (typically Tuesdays and Thursdays). Even when closed, the walk up to the lighthouse and the view from the surrounding rocks are worth the trip.
Are there beach activities at Napatree Point?
Napatree is a conservation area, not a swimming beach. You can walk the 3-mile loop, birdwatch, beachcomb along the bay side at low tide, and explore the Fort Mansfield ruins at the western end. Swimming is better at East Beach or Misquamicut.
